The advances in technology have made a big impact in our lives; some of the most common and recent changes are the need of staying connected and the use of social media. Teachers might have a hard time trying to keep up with all the changes in technology; however, the creation of an organized area, websites, or Professional Learning Networks (PLN) “allow teachers to collect information from various Web sites and access it in one organized area so they can efficiently stay up to date on the latest teaching techniques, pedagogies, and changes in the field of education” (Trust, 2012, p. 34).
Learning about (PLN) made me realized the importance of staying connected and to build connections with other teachers, this definitely will help me grow professionally while learning from others. As a part of my personal and professional development, I would like to be actively engaged building and participating in my professional learning network. Some of the challenges could be time, but I will make sure to take at least 15 minutes daily to explore and build up my network. Since last Tuesday, I have been answering questions to posts in Edmodo.com; also, I am a member of the American Council on the Teaching of the Foreign Languages (ACTFL) to further my connections. ACTFL also has different groups to discuss important topics, as well as conventions, webinars, and other related sources of information for Foreign Languages Teachers. I will also consider exploring other networks as well and continue to develop my PLN since nowadays it is important to embrace the changes in the digital world to influence student learning and keep it interesting for the new digital generation.
